Escrever ao nosso ser mais jovem, agora que à distância nos observamos diferentes, é um exercício muito curioso, não importa em que língua seja feito. Aqui fica uma sugestão de leitura (e de escrita) para quem aprecia o género epistolar.
A letter to my younger self
Dear Younger Me,
I’m writing you this letter from the year 2016. Currently, I’m 17 years old, a couple of days away from turning 18. I hope you’re doing well. I’m writing you this because there are a lot of things I wish I knew when I was your age. One of the things is the fact that friends come and go. The people you call friends now, probably won’t be by your side for the rest of your life. But it’s okay. You’ll make new friends and, believe me, those friends will be the best you could ever ask for. They’ll push your buttons daily, they’ll be really weird, loud and they won’t know when to shut up; annoying you, will be part of their routine. But you guys will have each other’s backs no matter what.
Another thing that I want you to know is that you’ll make mistakes in your life. A lot of them. But the good part of making those mistakes is the fact that you’ll learn from them. Those mistakes you’ve made, made the girl I am today. Am I proud of those mistakes? No, not at all. But if you ask me if I’m proud of the woman you turned me into, I’ll tell you yes, with all the letters. And don’t ever forget that everybody makes bad choices in life, everybody has the right to make mistakes, and all of them deserve to be forgiven. Even if what they did really hurts you, you need to learn to forgive.
One last thing, enjoy every little second of your life, every moment with everyone you love because they won’t last forever, unfortunately. And never underestimate yourself. I believe that one day you’ll be able to make great things.
With all the love,
Your older self
